>> Watch the ceremony<\/a><\/p>\nThis year, due to the Covid-19 crisis, we moved the entire writing competition online for the first time. While some students wrote their entries earlier in the year, others chose to write them during the pandemic. All students wrote about what Freedom means to them in the context of community.<\/p>\n
About the McEntyre Writing Competition<\/em>
\nThe McEntyre Writing Competition is organized by the Children\u2019s Department of the Westmount Public Library with the support of a team of volunteers. The competition was originally called the Westmount Scholarship Trust Fund Essay Competition and was established in 1972 by former Mayor of the City of Westmount, Peter McEntyre (1969-1971). Mayor McEntyre wanted to encourage young people to think about the idea of community and to learn more about their communities.<\/p>\nAll students in elementary (grade 1\u20136) or secondary (grade 7\u201311) who go to school in Westmount, live in Westmount, or are members of a library in Westmount can participate in the competition.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
