{"id":47905,"date":"2019-08-28T10:05:04","date_gmt":"2019-08-28T14:05:04","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.westmount.org\/?p=47905"},"modified":"2019-09-09T10:44:18","modified_gmt":"2019-09-09T14:44:18","slug":"dementia-education-and-support-workshop-for-family-caregivers","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.westmount.org\/en\/dementia-education-and-support-workshop-for-family-caregivers\/","title":{"rendered":"Dementia Education and Support Workshop for Family Caregivers"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Special workshop for Westmount residents<\/p>\n<p>McGill University\u2019s <strong>Division of Geriatric Medicine <\/strong> and the <strong>and the Steinberg Centre for Simulation and Interactive Learning<\/strong> are working in collaboration with Alzheimer\u2019s Care Consultant and Facilitator Claire Webster to offer a community workshop that aims to educate and support caregivers who are looking after a family member with Alzheimer&#8217;s disease or a dementia-related illness. The workshop will be taught by a dedicated group of health care professionals including a geriatrician, an occupational or physical therapist, a former caregiver, and a representative from the Quebec Health and Social Services network.<\/p>\n<p>This workshop will:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>focus on the most important elements that caregivers need to know regarding dementia and its associated behavioural and psychological symptoms;<\/li>\n<li>help family members prepare themselves for the journey of caring for someone who has the disease, including best practices for ensuring their own well-being as caregivers;<\/li>\n<li>simulate a real-life scenario to educate caregivers on how to create a safe home environment.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>Through education and empowerment, this workshop will help support caregivers and provide them with the necessary resources to turn to in the community for support.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.mcgill.ca\/medsimcentre\/channels\/event\/dementia-education-and-support-workshop-family-caregivers-sept-20-2019-297586\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\" class=\"broken_link\">Click here to register<\/a> for this workshop<\/strong>.
