The City of Westmount is proud to host a Canadian first, to mark our country’s 150th anniversary of Confederation. The Loons<\/strong><\/em>, an ephemeral, interactive light show in Westmount park, is the creation of CS Design, an award-winning company specializing in architectural lighting and special public installations.<\/p>\n

The Loons<\/strong><\/em> will feature fifteen luminous spherical balloons \u2014 one for every decade since 1867 \u2014 floating several metres above a grassy field. As participants move through the towering installation, the balloons react and emit pulsations of red and white light, reflecting the collective activity of the crowd below into the night sky. A playful centrepiece to Canada Day celebrations, The Loons<\/em><\/strong> \u2013 intended for people of all ages \u2013 will be a fitting display to mark our country’s milestone birthday.<\/p>\n

CS Design\u2019s core team of Conor Sampson, Anne-Marie Paquette and Paul Poirier are at the heart of this unique project for Westmount. The award-winning company has collaborated on many projects in Montreal and around the continent involving lighting for parks, heritage buildings, monuments and artworks.<\/p>\n

City Councillor Rosalind Davis, Commissioner of Sports & Recreation, is hoping to see many friends and neighbours during the day and evening of July 1st. “Westmounters will not want to miss this rare opportunity to see and to interact as a group with this one-of-a-kind installation, right in our neighbourhood,\u201d she said. “What better way to finish off a great day of festivities than to gather together in the park for a spectacular, world-class event.\u201d<\/p>\n

Organized by the City’s Community Events Department, in collaboration with the Sports and Recreation Department, Westmount\u2019s Canada Day celebrations begin at 11 a.m. Saturday, July 1st with a Canadian Citizenship Ceremony, a BBQ at 12:30 p.m., the annual Splash Bash at the pool from 2 p.m., and the Canada Day cake at 3 p.m. The party with food trucks, music and entertainment begins at 6:30 p.m., and culminates with The Loons<\/em><\/strong>, at their most vibrant from 9:30 p.m. View Canada Day event details<\/a>.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
