{"id":107777,"date":"2025-02-06T16:08:35","date_gmt":"2025-02-06T21:08:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.westmount.org\/?p=107777"},"modified":"2025-02-10T12:23:53","modified_gmt":"2025-02-10T17:23:53","slug":"public-notice-draft-amendment-by-law-1625","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.westmount.org\/en\/public-notice-draft-amendment-by-law-1625\/","title":{"rendered":"Deposit of draft by-law 1625 for the protection of trees"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>At a regular meeting held on 3 February 2025, Council deposited draft amendment by-law 1625 entitled : <em>By-law to amend certain provisions of the Zoning By-law concerning the planting and protection of trees and planted areas in side yards<\/em>. The purpose of the by-law is not only to strengthen tree protection but also to promote more sustainable tree management in the City of Westmount.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The main objectives of these amendments are as follows:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Strengthen regulations on tree felling<\/li>\n<li>Introduce new tree-planting provisions, making it mandatory to plant a tree for every tree felled, unless specific exceptions apply<\/li>\n<li>Ensure the protection of trees during construction work<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>In parallel with these amendments, a draft by-law amending the fines for breaching a regulatory provision, particularly in the case of felling a tree, was also adopted.
