{"id":106649,"date":"2024-12-19T15:00:00","date_gmt":"2024-12-19T20:00:00","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www2.westmount.org\/?p=106649"},"modified":"2025-01-08T13:29:14","modified_gmt":"2025-01-08T18:29:14","slug":"modernization-of-the-selective-collection-accepted-materials-and-exceptions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www2.westmount.org\/en\/modernization-of-the-selective-collection-accepted-materials-and-exceptions\/","title":{"rendered":"Modernization of the Selective Collection: Accepted Materials and Exceptions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>As of January 1, 2025, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.eeq.ca\/en\/modernization\/\">\u00c9co Entreprise Qu\u00e9bec (\u00c9EQ)<\/a> will become responsible for the selective collection system for the whole of Quebec, and will manage the modernization of the collection and processing system for recyclable materials. The list of accepted materials will then be simplified: <strong>containers, packaging, printed matter\u2014that\u2019s it!<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>So, <strong>as of January 1, 2025, any container, packaging or printed matter made from plastic, paper\/cardboard, glass or metal will go in the blue bin!<\/strong> This includes all flexible plastic bags and packaging (whether stretchable or not), and all rigid plastic containers (whether identified with a M\u00f6bius strip or not).<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Containers: usually have a cap or lid.<\/li>\n<li>Packaging: used to easily transport a product.<\/li>\n<li>Printed matter: paper and other fibres with text, patterns or images.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Important message<\/strong>: The bin must be removed from its collection point by 6 a.m. on Thursday and stored so that it is not visible from the street. Also, for everyone\u2019s safety, it is essential to be patient on the road and not to bypass the trucks and collection staff. Furthermore, please remember to store your bins out of sight after collection.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><strong><u>Exceptions not to put in the blue bin<\/u><\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>Aerosol: to the Ecocentre<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>All containers, empty or not, marked with an explosive, flammable, toxic, corrosive or other symbol, must never be placed out for door-to-door collections. If it\u2019s dangerous for you at home, it\u2019s also dangerous for collection and sorting centre employees.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>protective packaging (Styrofoam): to the ecocenter<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>This packaging easily breaks up into balls, contaminating sorting lines and other materials to be recycled.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Degradable plastic containers and packaging: in the garbage<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Containers and packaging marked \u201cbiodegradable,\u201d \u201cPLA,\u201d \u201coxodegradable\u201d or \u201ccompostable\u201d are not accepted in the blue bin, nor with food waste.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>\u00a0<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>About<\/strong><strong> the modernization of selective collection<\/strong><\/p>\n<p><strong>The modernization of selective collection, led by \u00c9co Entreprises Qu\u00e9bec (\u00c9EQ), aims to improve the efficiency and quality of sorting recyclable materials.
