Smog warning – December 26 & 27: prohibition to use wood-burning fireplaces or other solid-fuel appliances

During the night of Thursday, December 26, and the morning of Friday, December 27, high concentrations of pollutants are expected to cause poor air quality. Environment Canada has issued a smog warning for several regions in southern Quebec, including the island of Montreal.

In Quebec, wood burning is one of the main sources of the fine particles that contribute to smog in winter.

IMPORTANT: By-law 1600 of the City of Westmount prohibits the use of fireplaces or other solid-fuel-burning appliances on its territory when a smog warning is issued by Environment Canada.
