REMINDER: Garbage collection every two (2) weeks for single-family homes and buildings with 2 to 8 units
Starting this year, between the months of October and April, garbage is collected every two (2) weeks for single-family homes and buildings with 2 to 8 units.
Only very little waste should end up in garbage sent landfill: sanitary products, excrement, vacuum bag content. However, according to the Bilan 2022 de la gestion des matières résiduelles de l’agglomération (waste management report), over 40% of Montrealers’ garbage bags are made up of organic materials (food and green residues), and 20% of recyclable materials. Bi-weekly garbage collection is intended to encourage better sorting of waste sent to landfill by encouraging citizens to participate in collections of recyclable and compostable (such as food waste) materials.
