New pumptrack in Westmount Park
The City of Westmount installed a pumptrack in Westmount Park near the Centennial monument at Melville and Melbourne Avenues.
A pumptrack is a closed course composed of a succession of bumps and banked curves that allows users of bikes, skateboards, inline skates, and wheelchairs to gain speed through ‘pumping’, or generating momentum by up and down body movements (flexion/extension) rather than pedalling or pushing.
Easily accessible, the Westmount track will be open to people of all ages. The Sports and Recreation team expects this new activity to be popular with residents.
An official inauguration took place Friday, April 29 at 4 p.m., with Mayor Christina M. Smith, members of Westmount council and the administration present, as well as local BMX rider Kristian Mancini.
