New collective agreement adopted by Westmount blue-collar workers
At a general meeting held on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, a large majority of Westmount blue-collar workers voted in favour of the agreement reached between the City of Westmount and the Syndicat des cols bleus regroupés de Montréal – Section locale 301. The new collective agreement will run for 7 years, retroactive to January 1, 2020. The signing of the agreement marks the end of the unlimited strike that began on June 22. Blue-collar workers will resume work as of Thursday, August 10.
“This negotiation has been long and trying for all parties involved. The impact has also been felt in the community, and I would like to thank residents and the entire administration for their patience and cooperation during this period. We are very pleased and relieved to have reached a fair and financially responsible agreement that has been accepted by the majority of blue-collar workers. We must now continue to fulfil our mission, together, in the service of the City and the community.” said Mayor Christina M. Smith.
In the coming weeks, the Union and the City will finalize the drafting of the collective agreement in order to ratify it as soon as possible. Once the collective agreement has been signed, the City will have 60 days to pay the blue-collar workers the retroactive amounts to which they are entitled.
